Hello You: Meet Juliette - Creating digital opportunities for everyone
March 5, 2025
As part of the "Hello You" series, we’re handing the mic to colleagues across Orange Belgium—giving them the space to share their journeys, challenges, and the impact they make every day. This series highlights the people behind the innovation, the problem-solvers, and the driving forces shaping Orange Belgium.
Juliette Malherbe’s career didn’t start in tech, but her drive to create impact led her there. With a background in business and innovation, she discovered how technology could be a powerful tool for inclusion and opportunity. Today, as Head of Orange Digital Center, she’s on a mission to make technology accessible for everyone.
"The world is moving fast, and technology should be a tool for empowerment, not a barrier," she says. Through hands-on training programs, partnerships, and innovative tools, Juliette and her team are giving more people a fair chance in the digital landscape.
A new era for digital inclusion
Juliette’s role recently expanded, merging the Orange Digital Center and the Orange Foundation under one umbrella. "We’re working on two levels—helping vulnerable groups develop digital skills while also creating pathways into tech careers," she explains.
The Orange Digital Center is all about bridging the gap between talent and opportunity. One of its flagship programs, in collaboration with BeCode provides AI training, allowing participants to upskill and enter the job market with in-demand knowledge. "There’s such a huge gap between companies needing tech talent and people looking for work. These programs help close that gap," she shares.
One story that stands out to Juliette is that of a woman recovering from burnout. "She discovered laser cutting through one of our programs and ended up creating a game for children. That’s the kind of impact we strive for—helping people find new paths they may never have considered," she says.
Making an impact with real-world tech
For Juliette, digital inclusion is about putting technology to work for good. Take, for example, a recent project tackling cyberbullying. "We work with students to develop an app that helps detect cyberbullying. So, it’s not just about coding, we’re using technology to achieve life-changing results," she explains.
Her focus also extends beyond young people. Senior citizens, job seekers, and even Orange Belgium employees benefit from digital inclusion efforts. "Tech is evolving so quickly that even experienced professionals need continuous upskilling," she says. AI training programs within Orange help ensure that internal teams stay ahead of the curve.
Breaking down barriers
Juliette’s journey into tech wasn’t something she had mapped out. With a background in business administration, she first encountered the world of technology through her work in innovation. "I wasn’t always passionate about tech," she admits. "My background is in business administration, and I learned about innovation in the field. It wasn’t something I planned—it was something I grew into, but I am so enthusiastic about it now!"
That’s why she’s determined to make tech feel approachable. "When people get hands-on experience—whether it’s using 3D printers or designing real projects—the whole industry feels less intimidating," she explains.
At the Fab Lab, people gain access to tools like laser cutters and 3D printers, but it’s not just about access—it’s about creating something meaningful. "We give people the space to experiment, build, and innovate," Juliette adds.
Why Orange? So many paths, so many possibilities
What started as my ‘first job’ turned into something completely different," she says. For her it’s about being in an environment that values growth. "Orange supports learning in a way that’s both structured and flexible. You have the freedom to evolve, try new things, and shape your own career," she shares.
Words to live by
Juliette’s biggest lesson? Embrace the unexpected. "You don’t have to know everything before you start—you just have to be willing to learn," she says. "If you want a job where your work makes a difference, where you can grow, and where innovation meets purpose—this is the place to be."
